Item Description

Here we have a beautiful, large "Oval Cabochon" of Fossilized Palm Wood from Indonesia. The stone is filled with beautiful warm hues that almost give the appearance of a fire burning with vivid reds, oranges and yellows against a golden-beige background. Fossilized Palm Wood is sometimes called Palmoxylon, which is an extinct palm genus dating around 83 million years ago (Late Cretaceous) to about 34 millions years ago (Early Miocene). You can identify the material based upon the small spots, rods or lines which are the actual fossilized structures of original wood. A very attractive and good quality example of these wonderful fossils/gems.
