Item Description

The polished face of this large fossilized palm tree trunk has artistic form with the contrasting colors of the agate replacement. The brown outer rind and bark compliment the polka-dotted interior with interesting beige colored rounded areas. The myriad of spots were the vertical woody tissue, that gave strength to the tree. The fossilized bark is very well preserved. Palmoxylon is an extinct genus of palm. Fairly common in parts of Texas, they range from Late Cretaceous to Early Miocene in age (83-34 MMYBP). The underside is covered in felt, so this would make a fine decorative piece or trivet. 1907 grams or 4.2 pounds mass.
