Item Description
Indonesia produces some of the finest, and most well-preserved Coral fossil pieces you'll find. A friend of mine told me that the coral reefs along these highly volcanic islands were preserved when they were covered by volcanic sediments from eruptions long ago, just waiting to be discovered. The island of Sumatra has incredible deposits of rare and ornate suite of fossils from approximately 20 million years ago during the Miocene Age. These processes amazingly captured the full pattern and character of the original coral life forms have been preserved in great detail. Here we have a wonderful large cabinet display specimen featuring grey to beige fossil coral, the beautiful well-preserved shapes of the organism. I'm told that this is ancient Sponge Coral, and now you can enjoy its beauty preserved in volcanic sediments. It's a hefty specimen, weighing in at 1,985 grams (4 pounds, 6 oz).
