Item Description
Here we have a beautiful, good sized fossilized Coral (Sponge Coral) from Indonesia. In my experience, some of the best examples of fossilized coral come from this country. The environmental conditions allowed for the ancient coral life forms to be beautifully and meticulously well-preserved due to the fact that they were covered by volcanic sediments from eruptions long ago. Over the years, some of the best examples of this material have come from the island of Sumatra. These fossils have been dated to about approximately 20 million years ago during the Miocene Age. This stone has a "Square Cabochon" cut with beige and red hues, showing excellent detail of the preexisting coral.
