Item Description

A shapely, 6.2 cm, lustrous, two-sided fossilized clam shell is jauntily set on the large dark gray shale matrix plate from an unknown New York locality. The well-defined ribbing on the arched shell are highlights. Shale on the flanks of the front of the clam are slightly pyritized. Fragments of other shells on the back are a bonus. Possibly Devonian in age - 419 to 359 MYA. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
