Item Description

Five distinct fossil bird tracks are clearly visible in the thinly laminated, very fine-grained sandstone on this showy and excellent large plate from the Green River Formation (Middle Eocene in age - 48-38 MYA). These are good examples of tracks from a medium sized bird. Such ichnofossils (signs of animal activities) are common in the Eocene of Wyoming and Utah. These are considered tracks of sandpipers or plovers. Excellent material from the Robert Nowakowski Collection. His label notes a $1300 value on it
