Item Description
Rare old-time forsterite in volcanic rock from the Eifel Mountains of Germany. A sharp triangular, 4.0 x 3.5 cm, xenolith of dense microcrystalline, glassy, green forsterite variety olivine is aesthetically set in the sculptural vesicular basalt matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Her label was lost during the move, but comes with a Scott Williams Collection label, probably dating to the 1950 or 60s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Probably from an unknown locality in the Rhineland-Palatinate. Seldom on the market in this quality.
