Item Description
Footemineite is a rare calcium manganese beryllium phosphate, only found in THREE places on Earth. It's part of the Roscherite Group and is isostructural with Atencioite. It's obviously named after the famed Foote Mine in North Carolina, the type locality for the species. This locality produced a small amount of the best CRYSTALS of the species ever found. This specimen features small (most are <1 mm give or take) crystals of sharp, well-formed, translucent, yellow-golden Footemineite associated with Albite sitting on matrix. We have photographed the tiny crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. It's important to note that there are MANY crystals on this specimen, a few dozen for sure, but most of them are quite small. If you collect rarities, minerals from the type locality or specifically minerals from the well-known Foote Mine, don't miss out on this beauty. From the collection Jack Eaker (whose label says the specimen was identified by Jason Smith).
