Item Description

The area around Wilberforce is known for producing some impressive, large, and well-formed crystals of Fluoro-richterite. These specimens are iconic, and this attractive cabinet sized piece is no exception. A 9.8 cm long, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, rich brown to greenish-brown colored crystal of Fluoro-richterite is sitting on grey Calcite matrix. The termination on the Fluoro-richterite is somewhat crude, but it's mostly complete, and even though the front edge is not 100% perfect, it's still a large impressive representation of this beloved material from Ontario. You don't often see crystallized Amphiboles with such robust and large crystals like this. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
