Item Description

While the famous Elmwood Mine is only known for producing a handful of mineral species, they are some of the most singular and easily recognizable specimens from any locality out there. This piece is a really attractive display piece featuring a central cube of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, medium purple colored Fluorite measuring 2.4 cm on edge which is beautifully set between attractive rich reddish-brown "ruby jack" Sphalerite crystals on either side. The largest Sphalerite measures 1.9 cm at its longest dimension. If you look closely, you'll see a 1.8 cm, very pale golden colored, GEM quality, doubly-terminated scalenohedral crystal of Calcite just off the side of the largest Sphalerite, for a great touch! The matrix is covered by pearly white rhombs of Dolomite sitting on sparkling micro Quartz, so you have five different species on this specimen, which is not terribly common from this mine. The Fluorite is in excellent condition, with no damage I can see with the naked eye, and the Sphalerites are actually a bit gemmy when strongly backlit. A beautiful specimen with such elegant crystal positioning and fine quality all around.
