Item Description

Morocco is typically associated with secondary ore species, and most people don't think of Fluorite when it comes to Moroccan minerals, but the El Hammam Mine, has produced some excellent examples over the years. These distinct and easy-to-spot specimens feature good sized crystals with multiple colors seen. I'm told that the Fluorites from this mine have an unusually high REE content, which might explain the wide range of colors. This piece hosts a predominant, gemmy, soft green colored cubic crystal of Fluorite measuring 4.3 cm on edge with additional Fluorites on a few sides. The Fluorites are partially coated by gemmy, colorless Quartz crystals, some of which are predominantly pyramidal in habit.  When backlit, you can actually see some "phantom" zoning inside the Fluorites (see the backlighting in the video).  The piece is VERY close to being a complete "floater", as it's crystallized on the back, and there are only a few separation marks on the side. A wonderful example of this iconic material.
