Fluorite with Pyrite, Quartz

Item Description

A very unexpected combination, and simply a jewel of a specimen from the famous Ruyuan Fluorite Mine in Guangdong. The piece starts off as large apparent "octahedral" crystals of Fluorite with 3 growth phases of a translucent apple green color with dark purple phantoms and then back to green. The piece was then dusted with tiny glistening golden metallic Pyrites. No matter what direction the piece is viewed from, it simply shimmers and glows. The next stage of mineral growth consisted of contrasting prismatic white Quartz crystals that preferentially grew on one side of the Fluorites. The largest "octahedral" Fluorite is 5.3 cm from base to peak. Although octahedral in shape, they are actually composed of small individual cubes that are stacked and taper toward each corner giving the appearance of an octahedron, similar to the ancient pyramids. The piece is great condition with only subtle bruising and obvious edge trimming that reveals the Fluorite underneath. A sculptural and very uncommon combination Fluorite specimen. The piece resembles a picturesque mountain landscape scene with the sun glowing on the southern hillsides and the snow still capping the north. The green Fluorite has a strong purple fluorescence.
