Item Description
A lovely example of the classic and now fast-disappearing Fluorites from Southern Illinois. This entire area is closed down, so there is no more in way of new specimens being found. This piece is a showy and fine quality specimen hosting several sharp, well-formed, gemmy, rich purple cubic Fluorite crystals measuring up to 2.7 cm, free of matrix. When backlit, the crystals show gorgeous internal "phantoms", with alternation bands of color. There is a typed label from an unknown collection that states the piece is, "FOR FRED" and describes the specimen amusingly as, "Perfection plus". While it's a good specimen, it's not 100% perfect, as I can see some minor nicks here and there. Still a worthwhile piece of this well-known material for any fan of Southern Illinois Fluorites.
