Item Description
The Sweet Home mine is famous for its Rhodochrosite specimens, but it doesn't get enough credit for its Fluorites or Hubnerite, the latter of which might be the best from any locality in Colorado, though they are few and far between. I've seen a few Hubnerites from this mine that are as good as anything from the Huallypon Mine in Peru in terms of luster and deep blood red color, though not as large. This piece hosts many sharp, gemmy, blue and purple cubic Fluorite crystals measuring up to 4 mm on edge associated with a few bladed crystals of Hubnerite measuring up to 1.1 cm on gemmy "needle" Quartz on matrix. A few of the Hubnerite crystals show a rich red color when backlit. The piece is not 100% damage free, but it's not easy to find any decent pieces of Hubnerite from this world famous locality on the market, so if you collect Colorado minerals, don't miss out on this one.
