Item Description

With this unique amber-yellow color and internal radiance, this was obviously recognizable at first glance as a Saxony fluorite, from the old era of mineral collecting in Europe. It screams at you with a special color, different than yellow fluorite from England or Illinois, somehow. The internal brilliance and saturation is different. This is a rich small cabinet piece with crystals completely covering a knob of matrix, and they reach 1.5 cm (although the largest, to the left, has a damaged corner). The sparkle and color make this stand out. Tiny chalcopyrites are also present. Jack got this from Gene Schlepp and so given the age (probalby mid to late 1800s) and classic nature of it, and no other older labels, it might be from his infamous Northwestern University collection purchase. Anyways, you certainly do not see them today on the market! We are truly honored to present this specimen from another lot of deaccessions from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005.
