Fluorite with Calcite & Pyrite (classic fluorescent)

Item Description

Classic, rich and showy large fluorite with accessories from one of the famous lead-fluorite mines of the Stanhope (Weardale) area of County Durham. The aesthetically intergrown, lustrous, translucent to transparent cubes have pretty variable purple color. The imposing three primary cubes are 5.0 x 3.1 x 3.0 cm, 4.3 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm and 3.8 x 3.8 x 2.9 cm. The cubes are nicely accented by a well-placed patch and isolated crystals of contrasting flattened nailhead calcite disks and there is a subtle hint of light green fluorite next to the calcite patch. The back is festooned with many more calcites and tiny, bright, brassy pyritohedrons, as a bonus. The large and small fluorite cubes are pristine. The 4.3 cm cube has two contacts on one face, where other crystals one lay, but with minimal bruising, per se and a lightly cleaved corner. These are certainly minimal detractions to this sculptural piece. Blue to white fluorite and pink calcite LW UV fluorescence. Ex De Natura (Les Presmyk) dealer stock. Valued by Les at $2000.
