Fluorite with Calcite (ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection)

An attractive group of purple and green cubic Fluorite crystals with a selective deposition of sparkling, gemmy, colorless Calcite from the famous Shangbao Mine. This piece is in superb condition all around, and it's even crystallized on the back, making it a nearly complete "floater", but I can see a few small points of attachment, so it's not 100% pristine. The big Fluorite group in the center measures 5.2 cm across, and it glows with color when backlit. The faces of the Fluorite crystals are all shiny, smooth and well-formed. Hard to photograph, but really fun to play with when you have it in your hands. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
