Fluorite with Calcite and Quartz

Item Description

Dozens of lovely transparent to translucent, zoned Fluorite cubes make up this small cabinet piece from El Hammam in Morocco. This piece is composed almost entirely of colorful Fluorite crystals from 0.4 to 1.3 cm across exhibiting a predominantly translucent, sea-green phantom core outlined by a 1 to 2 mm, completely transparent, light blue-green rim. Some of the Fluorite crystals have patches of fine drusy Quartz, most of which are transparent and other patches are tinted a light orange-tan. Subsequent growth of Calcite resulted in sheaves of tight, parallel growth, steeply scalenohedral crystals that grace the piece as strategically placed, ivory-white clusters to 1.4 cm in length. A few bronze colored plates and small clusters of Pyrrhotite are emplaced among the Calcite and Fluorite crystals for added interest and aesthetics. This is a great combination piece from El Hammam that usually produces only Fluorite clusters with little else in association. From the noted European and worldwide collection of Kurt Hefendehl.
