Fluorite with Calcite

Item Description

This is an older specimen from a find in the late 1990s at the famous Shangbao Mine in China. This significant locality is well-known for its beautiful Fluorites, occurring in range of colors, and often found in showy display specimens with wonderful associations. They are some of the most distinctive, eye-catching and highest quality examples from anywhere in China. This cabinet sized display specimen hosts beautiful, sharp, lustrous, gemmy cubic crystals of Fluorite with a soft blue-green hue which are partially coated by sharp, "dogtooth"-shaped white Calcite scalenohedra. The video for this specimen shows the crystals as more of a blue color, but when I hold it up near the window, the color is more on the green end, so there is a bit of a color shift that exists when these crystals are viewed under different temperature lighting. The largest Fluorite measures 1.2 cm, and the largest Calcite measures 1.1 cm. If you look closely, you tiny Pyrite crystals scattered over the Fluorite crystals. The piece is in good shape, but there are a few contacts here and there.
