Item Description

The famed Les Farges Mine is best-known for its world-class green Pyromorphites, among the best examples of the species ever found. Mindat.org lists 41 species reported from this mine, but you almost never see anything but Pyromorphite available on the market from Les Farges. This piece is a beautiful and rarely seen showy display specimen from Les Farges featuring soft yellow colored, cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 2.2 cm on edge, associated with cream colored "rosettes" of bladed Baryte, along with underlain Quartz on matrix. I love the overall composition of the piece, with the main Fluorite crystals proudly sitting atop the specimen. No damage on the top/display side of the piece, it's only contacted on the lower periphery where it was separated from the pocket wall. If you collect worldwide Fluorites, I'll bet you don't have one of these in your collection, especially such an eye-catching and fine quality example.
From the collection of the long time, beloved, well-known French field collector, Paul Zerfass (#91). Zerfass built this worldwide collection over nearly 50 years, many of which were personally collected. A biography featuring specimens from his collection (along with his face on the cover) is in the May - June 2017 issue of French mineral magazine, Le Règne Minéral. We have a .pdf copy of the article for anybody interested in reading it (though it's mostly in French). Just drop us a line and know that you'd like to have it.
