Fluorite with Barite and Quartz (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

This is not your typical Madoc Fluorite. We're used to seeing large, gemmy, soft green colored crystals from the more recent finds, but this piece is clearly an older specimen as it features the same cuboctahedral habit that we expect, but the crystals are notably colorless. This lack of color is actually a sign of chemical purity for the species. The crystals are very sharp and well-formed, and virtually WATER CLEAR as you can see to matrix underneath. There are a few spots on the piece where the color appears to be a pinkish hue, but I think it's most likely due to minor iron content underneath the crystals. Small "rosettes" of Barite can be seen here and there, along with crystalline white Quartz matrix. Good quality, and a MUST have for any fan of worldwide Fluorites or Madoc / Canadian material, as you NEVER see pieces like this on the market. Valued at $700.
