Item Description

A beautiful and classic specimen of Fluorite from this regionally-known locality about 25 miles south of Grand Junction, Colorado. The distinctive Fluorites from Unaweep Canyon have are often seen associated with Amethyst, giving them a very particular appearance. This piece features a layer of solid, gemmy green octahedra of Fluorite on the base, coated by a layer of purple Amethyst, capped off by a pale silvery-green colored layer of Fluorite on top. A few bruises can be seen on the top of the piece, but overall it's in good shape. Hard to find on the market today, and certainly worth picking up if you collect Fluorites, Colorado minerals or specimens from the United States.
From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
