Item Description
A RARE, very showy and outstanding old-time combination from the historic mines at Freiberg. A 5.0 cm narrow vug in layered gneiss matrix is lined with sparkly, gemmy tiny lavender fluorite cubes. A 2.2 cm vertical cluster of beautifully iridescent, sharp, chalcopyrite sphenoids is dramatically set in the midddle of vug. Purple fluorite fluoresence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3262 and acquired from prominent East Coast dealer, John Albanese, probably in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Formerly in the John Pearse Collection (1842-1914), a prominent metallurgist and mining engineer. He purchased a 5000-piece collection in 1865 while at the Freiberg Mining Academy and his son sold this collection to Harvard. A RARE, important, historic and excellent old fluorite and chalcopyrite combination from Freiberg with a fine provenance.
