Item Description

An outstanding, rare and aesthetic large fluorite and barite combination specimen from the famed Erzgebirge. Stacked, interpenetrating cubes of lustrous and translucent, olive-green, fluorite crystals to 3.5 cm comprise this sculptural piece. Preferential coatings of two generations of barite (tan-larger and colorless-smaller) and rust-red hematite REALLY add panache to this striking and dramatic piece. Essentially pristine, with only trivial periphery wear and a couple of gently bruised barite blades. The matrix is granite and there is a narrow quartz dike running through it. Possibly from the Marienberg District. Uncommonly rare in this combination quality. Undoubtably old-time, but no proof. SUPREME rich purple fluorescence on the fluorite (compares or exceeds the best from England) and gold fluorescence on the barite. Valued at $1500 and well worth it. 1628 grams or 3.6 pounds.
