Item Description

Lavender fluorite included in a sawed and polished opal nodule is certainly one of the most unique fluorite combinations in the mineral kingdom. This highly unusual fluorite varietal is called Tiffany Stone. The name is of uncertain origin perhaps named for a Tiffany Harris of Utah. Folklore wrongly attributes the name to Tiffany and Company of New York which used purple colors in its decorative glassware. It is a fine-grained purple to pale violet fluorite, usually with swirl patterns sometimes with small impurities of intergrown bertrandite, chalcedony, opal, and/or quartz (MINDAT). It is unique to this obscure Utan beryllium deposit. Pretty patches and swirls of lavender fluorite are included in the sawed and polished opal nodule which includes bertrandite. The nodule has high luster and porcelaneous texture, just like datolite nodules from the Copper Country in Michigan!
