Item Description
Mined in the 1800's, this excellent and lustrous slice of Fluorite, know as 'Blue John', was produced at but a few locations in Castleton, Derbyshire, UK. The various colors of purple, mauve, yellow, and clear create a vivid, eye-popping combination, and the lighter Fluorite within dramatically show the intricate growth patterns. During the 19th century, Blue John was mainly mined for its ornamental value, and today mining goes on at a minimal level. This is a beautiful, highly-detailed example of this well-known Fluorite, worthy of a Tiffany window for its splendor. From the noted historic classics collection of Richard 'Dick' Hauck of New Jersey. 80 grams, this is a solid, beautiful, translucent plate. RARE on the market!
