Item Description

Of the thousands upon thousands of Fluorite localities in the world, the pieces from Mahodari are some of the most distinctive and unique. These unusual, beautiful and interesting botryoidal Fluorite specimens come from a trap rock locality, which is already very unusual for the species, as most people are accustomed to seeing zeolites and associated species from the various trap rocks in India. This particular specimen dates back to 1994, and was part of the collection of Richard A. Kosnar (1946-2007), well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, who was a big enthusiast of trap rock minerals. This specimen features a 2.1 cm, unusually botryoidal "ball" of Fluorite perched atop notably rich purple colored Amethyst on Chalcedony and host rock matrix. The Fluorite ranges in color from a golden hue towards the center, and grades into a creamy-white tone on the exterior. The piece is virtually unduamaged and actually looks a bit better in person than the photos might indicate. You rarely seen spherical Fluorite like this from any locality, but to find one on such strong purple Amethyst is even rarer in my experience. Priced at $1,400 retail.
