Fluorite (twinned, old classic) ex Hefendehl

This gorgeous Fluorite specimen was mined in the mid-20th Century from the Blackdene Mine in Great Britain and is a really good example for the locality with an incomprehensible amount of Fluorite interpenetration twins! It features numerous, large, gemmy, Fluorite crystals from 0.5 to 2.3 cm on edge that are all a rich, smoky purple color and nearly every crystal on the piece is twinned! And if all of the twins and the alluring smoky purple color isn't enough, the piece glows a bright creamy blue in short wave ultraviolet light! Most of the crystals are nearly pristine with only one area where a crystal is missing on the display side. Valued $1000-1250. Kurt Hefendehl was a well-known collector in the mineral world all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 in about 1952; and his great and varied worldwide collection reached a number of over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
