From some of the more recent mining efforts in 2017, this small cabinet Fluorite is from the famous Rogerley Mine. Penetration twins of Fluorite are perhaps the most attractive of the Fluorite-twin habits for their dynamic, yet simple, form, and the Rogerley Mine is renowned for producing these. Deep-green and gemmy, with the larger crystal 2 cm on the longest edge, this is classic for the locality. The Fluorites exhibit intense bluish-purple fluorescence. In fact, it was English Fluorites that lent their name to the term 'fluorescence', that's how strongly they react to UV. Mining conditions can be difficult there, between water flow and hard country rock, so a piece in this fine condition is to be treasured. Aesthetic and highly representative for both the habit and the locality. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Tim was a specialist preparation artist for the various past owners of this mine, for nearly 20 years, and kept some choice miniatures and small cabinets for his personal collection over that time, such as this, valued $1200-1500.
