Item Description
A striking, beautiful, 2.8 cm pair of gem, purple-violet, interpenetrating fluorite cubes dramatically dominates the large sculptural vug fully lined with smaller twins and single cubes. This impressive specimen is from the famous Frazer's Hush Mine in Weardale, that operated from the early 1970s to 1999. The mine is well-known for such transparent twins. The crystals fluoresce under under bright light. Ex Gary Hansen private collection and comes with a Hansen Minerals label dating to the 1970s to early 1980s. Gary was a well-known St. Louis dealer, who retired in the early 1980s. Classic material from the locale, which lent its very name to the word FLUORESCENCE! Miners came up from underground and wondered why their rocks glowed, and thus fluorite from this region became the namesake for the actual effect, as we use the word today. An old classic!
