Item Description

Here we have a classic specimen of the famous Fluorites from the Ribadesella area in Asturias (no specific mine is listed on the label) featuring fantastic, very gemmy (virtually water clear in some areas), purple crystals with notable tetrahexahedral faces measuring up to 1.6 cm on edge. It should be noted that the label refers to the crystals as "curved octahedra", but they are clearly tetrahexahedral once you know what to look for. The piece is in good shape overall, with only a few tiny blemishes. The crystals are so gemmy, and they were difficult to photograph, but the piece looks better in person. A very worthwhile and attractive Fluorite specimen from this well known Fluorite producing district. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11449). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
