Item Description
An impressive large 6.3 x 6.0 x 6.0 cm fluorite cube dominates this sculptural and classic large two sided combination from Cave-in-Rock fluorite district in historic Illinois. The 2.8 x 2.6 x 2.2 fluorite cube is a fine complement. The fluorites are a rich grape-purple with satin luster faces. They appear to be only moderately translucent under normal light, BUT variable intensity backlighting reveals excellent translucence with nifty edge phantoms! The granular matrix hosts more fluorite, rubyjack sphalerite, calcite and a few small cuboctahedral galena crystals. Both of the fluorite cubes have only very modest edge wear and bruising. Mass is 2080 grams or 4.6 pounds. Undoubtedly older choice combination material with a large fluorite from the Dick Heck Collection, but no proof. Outstanding large Cave-in-Rock fluorite combination of a classic old style. Valued at $4000-plus.
