Here we have a classic example of the famous and rarely seen "solution corners" from this prolific Elmwood Mine. These specimens are rather difficult to find on the market today. These unique crystals form by a complicated process where the original cubic Fluorite crystal goes through a dissolution process in hot fluids in the pocket (not an etching process), where actual molecules of the Fluorite are preferentially removed from edge faces over the corners which seem to offer some kind of molecular attachment and stability. The result is that you have a cube eaten away from the inside out, leaving the corners to look like this, and they gently fall to the bottom of the pocket where they wait to be found. This crystal is remarkably gemmy, virtually water clear when backlit, and has somewhat "matte" luster on the exterior remaining cubic faces. The color is a mix of pastel lilac and golden hues internally. A wonderful example of these beautiful and truly special Fluorite crystals. From the collection of Brian Kosnar. Priced at $800.
