Item Description

Here we have a wonderful small cabinet sized display specimen from the famous Moscona Mine featuring many razor sharp, well-formed, textbook cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 2.1 cm on edge of a distinct and rarely seen orange hue. Fluorite is literally found in virtually every color of the rainbow, but vivid orange colored crystals like this are certainly rare around the world. My guess is that there is some iron content creating the orange hue, but it is nonetheless striking and unusual. Associated scalenohedral crystals of vitreous white Calcite along with a selective deposition of sparkling golden metallic Marcasite round out the specimen, giving it character, contrast and depth. The specimen is in great shape overall, and displays beautifully as you can see. The piece is understandably contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall, but no major damage on the display side of the piece. It also displays an unusual fluorescence (both the Fluorite and the Calcite) under UV light as well. A very worthwhile and attractive Fluorite specimen from this well known Fluorite producing district. Priced at $3,750 in the inventory.
