Item Description
This piece came simply labeled as coming from "Artesia" in New Mexico, but I can't find a listing for any Fluorite from a locality with this name. Thanks to Phil Simmons for providing us with the correct locality information! This piece would make a really cool addition to any Fluorite suite, a collection of US or New Mexican minerals, or just a mineral oddities collection. Translucent, frosted, soft green colored octahedral Fluorites measuring up to 1.7 cm across can be seen on the underlying banded Quartz matrix. The main Fluorite crystals on the top of the piece all seem to be undamaged to the naked eye. This is certainly a strange one, but it's a cool specimen and a great example of how small or singular discoveries can produce such interesting specimens. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4681). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
