Fluorite (RARE locality!)

Item Description

An incredibly rare specimen of Fluorite from Mustang Mountain, which is a high peak (over 10,000 ft above the sea level), located in Esmeralda County, in Nevada. For reference, mindat.org uses the Buena Vista Mining District to list specimens from this locality, and it should not be confused with the Mustang Mine in Nevada, which lies in Nye County. This piece is a fine quality example featuring several rather gemmy, beautiful green colored modified cubic crystals of Fluorite on matrix. There is visible damage on the edge where the piece was removed from the pocket wall, but there are many undamaged crystals on the piece, and what really makes them stand out is their luster. I've only seen a few Fluorites from this area, and they always have a dull matte appearance, but these crystals are actually shiny, which only enhances their color and gemminess. A really attractive and incredibly hard to find locality specimen for any fan of worldwide Fluorites or mineral of the Western United States.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
