Item Description

A beautiful and hard to find locality specimen of Fluorite from the Afton Canyon Deposit in the Cady Mountains of southern California. The intense vibrant green color of the gemmy octahedral crystals is a signature for the deposit, and these might be the best green color Fluorites from any California locality, though the Felix Mine specimens are certainly in the same category. This piece is filled with sharp, gemmy, well-formed crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, with minor white Quartz coating a portion of the specimen. A pretty Fluorite specimen for any fan of the species, or a collector of minerals of California. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
