Item Description

This is the only specimen of Fluorite we've ever had to offer from Angola. In fact, outside of Diamond crystals, this is the only other mineral I can remember having to offer from anywhere in the entire country. It was also the only specimen in the entire collection of Kurt Hefendehl from Angola for what it's worth. In Kurt's collection catalogue, he states it's from "nördlich vom Kunene Fluß" = north of the Kunene Flow. Kunene is now spelled Cunene, and the actual name of the locality is Cuanhama. We were fortunate to find another specimen from this locality on mindat.org for a reference, so we know it's legitimate. The piece features beautiful, rich blue-green colored, gemmy, sharp, lustrous, cuboctahedral crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 5 mm, on both sides of the underlying matrix. There are slight hints of purple hues mixed in as well for a nice touch. If you're a Fluorite collector, this is a superb opportunity to pick up a specimen from an incredibly rare locality, mined decades ago, and next to impossible to find on the market today, so DON'T MISS OUT, because we don't have another one to offer, and we likely won't again anytime soon. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#1 AN), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
