Fluorite (rare German locale)

Item Description

Highly unusual looking and RARE large fluorite specimen from this less well-known fluorite and baryte mine in Thuringia. Vugs in the striking boxwork are lined with lustrous, translucent, yellowish-green fluorite cubes and the septa (partitions) that separate the vugs are also fluorite. The starkly contrasting reddish-brown iron oxide coatings are a dramatic and colorful contrast. Purple LW UV fluorescence. The piece displays well without aid. Specimens are very uncommon from the mine. A remarkable large fluorite from the locale that speaks with impact. For size and location, it's an important German locality piece from the well known Germany suite of the Kurt Hefendehl collection.
