Item Description
There are two main types of Fluorites that have come out of the De'an Mine; the purple and green octahedral crystals, and the rich purple crystals featuring cubes with dodecahedral modifications on Quartz. This piece features the classic cubic/dodecahedral habit, but it's an anomaly for the simple fact that it is a highly unusual color for the material. Instead of the typical purple hue, the crystal has what must be iron oxide inclusions, creating an oddly orange-pink tone, which mixes with the already purple color of the crystal to create a very attractive hue that you rarely see in Fluorite from any locality. The crystal measures 3.0 cm on edge, and it's complete and undamaged sitting on a large bed of crystallized white Quartz. I thin it's fair to say that China has produced more beautiful display quality Fluorite specimens in the last 20 years than any other country, but a piece like this still stands out for its uniqueness and overall beauty. A really cool specimen that would make a great addition to any Fluorite suite or a collection of Chinese minerals. From the collection of Brian Kosnar. Priced at $4,000 retail.
