Fluorite (purple phantom) ex Jack Halpern

Item Description

A classic specimen of purple phantomed blue fluorite from the mines in the Illinis fluorspar district, this is a particularly gemmy specimen that is 100% translucent to light, without need of strong backlighting. It is pristine on the display face, contacted on the bottom as shown (so it sits with a sharp corner point facing up which emphasizes the intense phantom as well). Most of these are too dark, but this crystal is shallow in depth, and so lights up more easily than most. We do not have prior history but obviously it is a style from the late 1980s, early 1990s here, and there is a #8187 on the back which looks like John Barlow's old mineral label style, so it could possibly have been in the Barlow collection (a guess). A fine display piece, classic style, and unusually easy to display on a shelf without crazy backlights, 147 grams.
