Fluorite (''phantoms'')

The area around Chifeng in Inner Mongolia, China has produced some superb quality Fluorites ove the years. This piece is an older specimen, and dates back over 10 years (early 2010s). This miniature sized piece features fine, sharp, gemmy, purple and light golden colored cubic crystals of Fluorite with distinct internal ''phantoms'' measuring up to 1.2 cm on edge sitting on a thin layer of matrix coated by little Quartz crystals. No major damage that I can see, though there are some minor imperfections. Very attractive in person. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
