Fluorite (''phantom'' crystals) with Chalcopyrite

Item Description

This is a striking Fluorite specimen from this classic locality featuring many razor-sharp, rather lustrous cubic crystals which have a very pale golden hue on the exteriors, which starkly contrasting internal "phantoms" of a strong reddish hue (due to iron oxide inclusions), measuring up to 1.2 cm on edge, associated with sparkling golden metallic Chalcopyrite on matrix. If you look closely with strong backlighting, you can see a very thin purple line on the outermost edge of some of the Fluorite crystals, meaning there are three very distinct hues that can be seen. No major damage that I can find, and quite showy and unique. A really attractive and certainly unusually colored Fluorite for any fan of the species, or a collector of German classics.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#375 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
