Item Description

A relatively hard to find Fluorite specimen from the Cookes Peak area in New Mexico featuring well-formed, GEMMY octahedral crystals measuring up to 2.4 cm, sitting atop an earlier generation of vibrant colored Fluorite matrix. The Fluorite octahedra have a rich reddish-purple color in the center, and show beautiful "phantom" zoning, which grades into virtually colorless on exterior edges. The piece is in great condition, and it's very showy. A fantastic piece to add to any Fluorite suite, especially a collection of pieces from Luna County. Valued $750.
The specimen comes from the collection of David L. Stoudt, with a label from the collection of Gene Tribbey. There is an additional 3x5 index card label with the year 1972 listed, but I don't know if that's when the piece was collected or purchased. With that said, it's still a 50+ year old specimen.
