Item Description
This piece is a somewhat of a mystery as it was labeled as coming from Joplin, Missouri, but it honestly doesn't resemble any Fluorite specimen I've seen from this area. It's possible the piece is from the Pea Ridge Mine, in Washington County, but it also doesn't quite resemble that material. Honestly, I was fooled from the start as I initially thought this must be from the Elmwood Mine, but the label says otherwise. With that said, if anybody out there has info as to where this piece is from, please feel free to contact us and let us know, so we can update this listing. You can see there are several sharp, well-formed, lustrous, stepped cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 1.1 with a rich grape jelly purple color sitting on rich reddish-brown "ruby jack" Sphalerite on matrix. You can see crystallization on both the front and back of the piece. An interesting and unusual midwest Fluorite that would make a great addition to any collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4727). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
