Item Description
Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood Mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. The specimens are a favorite among collectors, and it's easy to see why. This piece features good quality, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, purple cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 1.5 cm on edge sitting on classic reddish-brown "Ruby Jack" Sphalerite on minor matrix. Good quality for the material, and fairly aesthetic to boot. This piece is around 30-40 years old, and is a worthwhile display piece especially coming from this prominent and celebrated zinc ore body! From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
