Item Description

This long storied historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. The classic purple Fluorites are a favorite among collectors, and it's easy to see why. This piece features translucent, light purple color, cubic crystals of Fluorite on reddish-brown Sphalerite matrix. The most interesting aspect of the piece is the fact that the Fluorites crystals are compressed in one direction creating a "flat" tabular appearance!! A good representative display specimen of this well known material. This piece is close to 30 years old, and is a worthwhile reference piece especially coming from this prominent and celebrated zinc ore body!
