Item Description
For the old Johannesschacht Mine in Bavaria, Fluorite/Quartz combinations are rare and highly sought-after. That desirability ratchets up a notch when the Fluorites are as lustrous and gemmy as these, and the Quartz crystals so sharp and glassy. The Fluorites range up to 8 mm on edge. Mix in the charm of color variation (gold and purple) and radiation spots (there is Uranium around) for the Fluorites, as well as abundant Hematite associated with both species, and the this small cab gets better yet. There are a few dinged corners (not bad considering the age), but the overall aesthetics are good, as is the mineralogical and historic interest. Better in person, the pics don't do justice to how sparkling and attractive this piece really is. A choice and aesthetic small cab from an old-time and classic mining district, this was formerly in the E. Lindemann collection. #2239 in Kay's collection, it was acquired a half-century ago.
