Item Description

This is a wonderfully attractive small cabinet specimen of this rarely seen material from the La Fluorita Dulcita Claim in south-central Arizona. The small cabinet-sized piece is a rather sculptural and three-dimensional specimen due to the fact that it started as a group of scalenohedral Calcite crystals which were coated by Quartz and later dissolved away leaving hollow "casts" (some people call these either epimorphs or perimorphs), but the most attractive aspect of the piece is that a later generation of gemmy light purple octahedral Fluorite crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm across were deposited on the underlying Quartz. Fluorite crystals can be see on both sides, and only minor roughness can be see where it was detached from the pocket wall when it was collected. A must-have specimen for any fan of worldwide Fluorites, unusual "casts" / pseudomorphs or minerals from Arizona. This piece was collected by Bob Jackson in Oct-Nov 2014.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 9.2.1 AZ.7; 9966. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
