Item Description
The famous Sunnyside Mine in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado was the source of some of the most well-known Fluorites from any mine in Colorado. This locality is referred to as the "Standard Mine" by the locals, as it was owned by Standard Metals for many years. This piece hosts attractive, sharp, gemmy, soft blue-green colored cubic Fluorite crystals sitting on Quartz (erroneously labeled Calcite) and forming an attractive small cabinet specimen. The largest Fluorite measures 8 mm across. Very little damage, that I can see. A great specimen for any collector of Fluorites or specimens from Colorado from this well known mine in the San Juan Mountains. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States). You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/ . The piece was originally in the collection of Rich Kosnar (label included), the well-known dealer and collector from Colorado, who subsequently gifted it to his good friend Erberto Tealdi in January of 1988. Tealdi was the former editor of Rivista Mineralogica Italiana, the #1 mineral magazine in Italy, and his label is also included with the specimen.
